Hair care is tough. Hair types are all over the board and climate (whether dry or humid) is a big factor. So I'm going to share a few companies with you and why I like them. However, finding the right hair care is a lot of trial and error. The ones I've chosen are generally clean (but still may have some compromises).
1. 2Evolvh — Evolvh hair care (as shown in the second video above) are my current favorite hair care products. They are far and away better than anything I've used in a long, long time. They are clean, non-toxic, fragrance-free, and for all hair types.
I started using Evolvh's Ultra Shine Shampoo & Conditioner duo in November 2024. I was struggling with limp hair from overmoisturizing or dry, brittle hair from not enough moisturizing and/or too much protein. I find it hard to balance with needing moisturizing for high porosity, yet easily getting weighed down and losing volume with too heavy of products. With the UltraShine set, I get the moisturizing and protein I need without it being too heavy. As a result, my hair got softer, shinier, more curlier (just the right amount of protein), less needy of styling products.
Since then, I tested two other sets: Smart Curl and Smart Color. I like them both a lot and feel that my hair is more hydrated with both, but not weighed down. There are subtle differences; I think I have more volume with the Smart Color set. (Even though I don't color my hair, products for color are also helpful when your hair needs more help.)
If you have more fine hair, you might like the InstaVolume set (Shampoo, Leave-In Conditioner).
A Few Other Evolvh Products I Like:
- UltraRepair Reconstructing Masque — color damage, heat damage, or just plain dry and damaged hair; use once a week in place of conditioner — leave on 5 min, then rinse out. I use a pump of this EVERY time I condition and it makes my hair more curly and less frizzy. Just better!
- Smart Curl Foam — I love it so much!!!! I have *never* liked a foam/mousse product before. Never. They often make my hair dry, sticky, and gunky, or they don't make a difference so why bother. Not so this one. (I work about 6 pumps throughout my wet hair, and then I apply gel on top of that, usually the Camille Rose gel mentioned below.) I get more volume (even at the crown) and curl/wave definition while keeping my hair soft! My hair is so fun when using this foam, because I like it every day. The foam is a game changer!
- Standard Hair Oil — for extra moisturizing on dry hair in between washes or as needed (not for fine hair); I got a free one one but oil is not for me so I'm sending to my daughter Naomi
- DreamGel Flexible Hold Styling Creme (Gel) — with protein and creamy, sometimes I use just a tiny bit to give my other gel (Camille Rose Curl Maker or Miribel Naturals Silky Smooth Flaxseed Gel; see below for both) a bit of protein for stronger curls. This is NOT my favorite gel. Might be for you though; people rave about it.
- WonderBalm Magic for Curls — use the tiniest bit to smooth down frizzies, but may be too heavy for fine hair unless you're going for a smooth look. (Some people use it on wet hair before a blow-out.)
- SuperFinish Polishing Balm — use a small amount to smooth down frizzies; great for fine hair, plus grey/silver hairs love this!!!! My husband even uses this! Can be used on wet or dry hair (I use it on dry hair).
- InstaVolume Volumizing Mousse — if you're a mousse person, you might love this! Goes with the InstaVolume line for the finest hair. I *FAR* prefer the Smart Curl Foam mentioned above.
- UltraFlex Hair Spray — I really like this as well but I don't use hair spray that often; I like that this one doesn't leave my hair gunky (as long as I don't overdo)
You can't go wrong with Evolvh! They have a rewards program and frequent offers for free products and free shipping. They offer samples, too! Products often go out of stock, so if you find a favorite, I would suggest ordering a backup as soon as you can so you won't run out when they're out of stock.
If you want other options for hair care... here you go. :)
2. Miribel Naturals — Miribel Naturals (use code WARDEE to get 10% off) is a great option. However, they do use essential oils that we should probably avoid (if following low Vitamin A). However, because you're either rinsing out the products or not putting on the scalp, I find it an ok compromise if the products work for you. The shampoo doesn't work for most people, as it's not cleansing enough, but the other products are well worth trying out! The Silky Smooth Flaxseed Gel is a great gel, and I love that it doesn't contain gelatin (if you use a gelatin-containing product as your final styler, you can have humidity or dry-weather related frizz). My hair doesn't have as much volume with this gel as with the Camille Rose gel (below).
3. Ecoslay — Another great option if you're looking for natural hair care products is Ecoslay. I feel that they are lacking a deep cleansing shampoo, but I absolutely adore the Banana Cream Deep Conditioner and used it as a daily conditioner before I found Evolvh. It's deep, which I need because of our dry climate and having so many grey hairs these days, but also doesn't weigh my hair down. Many people love the Orange Marmalade Flaxseed and Aloe Curl Definer (gel), which I have tried and works OK to add volume to my hair as long as I combine it with the Miribel Naturals Flaxseed Gel (otherwise it's too drying).
Attitude Fragrance-Free Volume & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner — These are a great option if your hair is fine or thin (but not super dry). My friend Megan recommended these to me, and I got them to try them out because I felt I needed to have a recommendation for a shampoo that cleans well for those of us with fine or thin hair. My daughter Haniya loves the shampoo, which she pairs with a leave-in conditioner. Attitude has a lot of shampoos and conditioners; these are the fragrance-free:
Curl Keeper — (not mentioned in either video) Curl Keeper is not the cleanest, in that they use fragrance. Otherwise, they're not too bad. Although I use Evolvh now, for a time I used the Silk Shampoo and Silk Conditioner (with the gels mentioned below) and it contains a great protein (silk) while moisturizing my hair without weighing it down. After awhile, I had to switch to a different shampoo/conditioner set because I felt my hair got overloaded from protein and felt brittle. The “Silk” pair is their deepest moisturizing which normally I would not go for, but since I live in Idaho and I have dryer grey hairs, apparently I need it. LOL! I also like their Energizing Shampoo which is a clarifying shampoo. Not quite as powerful as the chelating shampoo I mention below, but great for every day removal of build-up.
Hairprint Chelating Shampoo — This is both a chelating and clarifying shampoo. Everyone needs to use a clarifying shampoo regularly to remove build-up from oils and products, and to use a chelating shampoo if you have hard water (mineral scale builds up on your hair, too). If you notice your hair is just not looking as good as it used to, if products aren't working anymore, if your hair feels dry or gunky no matter what you do, then you need to use a clarifying shampoo (or chelating). I recommend this one from Hairprint. Don't be alarmed when you find it's very watery. Just be careful pouring it out and transferring to your hair so as not to waste it. If your hair is very fine and limp, you might like this shampoo for every day.
Camille Rose Curl Maker Gel — This is my current favorite gel, and the reason I like it better than Miribel's flaxseed gel is that it preserves more volume, which is my priority even over shine and definition. I use this gel overtop Evolvh's Smart Curl Foam. (not mentioned in either video.) Here it is.
Innersense Organic "I Create Finish" Hair Spray — I don't use hairspray too much, just now and then. Because my hair is fine, there's a fine line between increasing or holding volume and gunking up my hair. The hairspray I like best is this one from Innersense.
